Simple Scrapbooking Mom Devoted to Your Success
O.K. here you are, now what do you do? I have the answers to your how to scrapbook questions, just follow me. Here's your step-by-step guide to fabulous easy made scrapbook pages for the beginner. First, you need to put together the Scrapbook Supplies to start with. You can get all of these easily at Walmart, Shopko, Jo-Ann's, Michaels, a scrapbook store and of course here on my website. The only thing to remember is get archival quality or acid free scrapbook supplies. The Scrapbook Supplies you need are:
I would recommend you check out Scrapbooking Oasis. They have a scrapbook bag with all your supplies in it, already to go. It is fantastic. Check out their link at the bottom of this page. The first of your scrapbook supplies is the Scrapbook Album. It can be any type you can find in your price range or that you like. The post bound albums are easy to find. You can tell which ones these are by looking at the inside of the binding, pull open the flap by the pages and you will see the screws. They have screws in the binding to hold the scrapbook together. You just unscrew them to add more pages. At some point you may run out of length on the screw. At this point, in order to add more pages you will need extenders for the screws. You simply screw them onto your original screw to make it longer. You can find these at any scrapbook supply store.
The 3 ring binder scrapbook albums also work well. They come with plastic page protectors for pages. You simply create your scrapbook page on a piece of cardstock paper and place it in the page protector.
There is also a staple page/strap type of album. It is made by the Creative Memories Co. These albums come with a plastic strap that goes through the staples to hold the album together. They have heavy weight scrapbook pages already in them. These albums can be a little more costly and you have to get them through a consultant for Creative Memories, but they are definitely worth it. Confused about what album to get? Looking for insider secrets? Want more tricks of
Scrapbook albums also come in different sizes. The 8 1/2x11 and the 12x12 are my favorites. They also come smaller than this. The 8 1/2x11 is a great place to start, because there is a huge variety of scrapbook paper/cardstock this size. This makes creating your page easier, with less cutting. They also make a variety of 12x12 paper. The advantage to this size scrapbook album is you can fit more pictures on the page. You decide what will work best for you. The majority of my scrapbooks are 12x12.
Next, you will need Scrapbook Pages. Most albums come with pages. Remember, 3 ring binder albums only have the page protectors, but you can use cardstock for the pages. Make sure you can buy scrapbook refill pages to match the ones in the album. The more refill pages you can fit in the album the better.
Then, you will need Scrapbook Page Protectors. These are clear plastic covers for your pages. Believe me, you will be very thankful for this protection of your precious works of art. They slip over the top/side of your page. As mentioned earlier,if you use a ring binder album the plastic pages in the album will be your page protectors. All other scrapbook albums come with cardstock type pages. You will need to purchase page protectors separately.
You can use any Scissors you would like. I would recommend something a little smaller than your normal household scissors with a pointy tip. This will make it easier to cut around things and poke holes in paper. The other thing that I find very handy is a
Scrapbook paper comes in many patterns, colors and thicknesses. Pick out 2-4 pieces of paper that go together well or match your theme. Take your pictures with you and try to get paper to coordinate with the colors in the pictures. I like to use a cardstock paper or heavier weight paper to mount my photos on. So pick up 2
Scrapbook Pens come in many colors and brands. You can get any scrapbook pen as long as it is acid free. I would suggest a black scrapbook pen to start with. Try writing with several different pens and see which one writes good and feels right. You will be using this to journal or write a story about your pictures. The next, Scrapbook supply, you will need is what will stick your pictures to the paper. It is called many different things like, tape runner, photo stickers, or adhesive. The easiest to start with are the photo stickers. These come in a small box and are double-sided small square stickers on a roll. You simply peel them off and place them on whatever you want to stick to the page. The tape runner is double backed tape that is in a hand held device. You roll it onto your page or pictures. They are a little tricky to use because you have to roll the tape in the right direction or it gets all messed up. The nice thing is that you don't have to peel any backing off or cut any tape. Now, for the most important Scrapbook supply, the pictures. Pick out 3-5 pictures with a common theme. This way you can make a page with several birthday pictures, baby pictures, vacation pictures etc. The best part of creating your page is adding the detail. I like to use alphabet stickers and any other stickers that go with the theme. You can find alphabet stickers in a variety of sizes and colors. Get some that are about 1" in size. As for stickers, pick up 1-2 sheets that match your theme for the easy made Scrapbook page. Check out Scrapjazz.com for a great selection of scrapbook stickers. They carry Jolee's and Sandylion stickers. Lastly, you will need something to hold your scrapbook supplies. You can get great scrapbook totes that have separate compartments for your scrapbook supplies at scrapbooking oasis. They carry a scrapbook tote that comes with or without all of your beginning scrapbook supplies included in it. Doesn't that sound like a great way to get started? Check out the link below look under storage and EK Success - Maple lane. You can also take any plastic tote that is big enough for all of your scrapbook supplies to fit into. A clear or see through tote is nice because, when you have more than one, you can see what is in each scrapbook tote without opening it.
