Are you ready to learn about scrapbook eyelets?  What are scrapbook eyelets? Those metal devices on your shoes that the shoelaces are threaded through are eyelets. Scrapbook eyelets are smaller, but look the same.  Scrapbook eyelets come in a large variety of colors, sizes and shapes.  I have some scrapbook eyelets that are stars and balloons, to name just a few. No matter what the occasion, there is a scrapbook eyelet for it. You can really highlight your pages nicely with scrapbook eyelets.

The first thing you need are scrapbook eyelet setting tools. You will need a scrapbook eyelet setter, hole punch, a hammer and a setting mat, which are easy to find. They even make scrapbook eyelet tool kits, which is what I have. I recommend going to Scrapjazz.com for a great eyelet setting tool kit.  Click on the shopping tab and it is in the megastore under tools : scrapbooking tools.  It is made by Making Memories.  There is some variety in the types of scrapbook eyelet tools out there. Just make sure you get the 4 tools I described. Those are the basic scrapbook eyelet setting tools you will need.

Now that you have the scrapbook eyelet tools you are ready to have some fun.  You can practice this scrapbook eyelet technique on any piece of paper before you actually use it on your scrapbook pages. Just follow the easy directions and look at the pictures to add scrapbook eyelets to your pages.

Take the hole punch and measure the tip to the hole in the scrapbook eyelet.  The hole punch is the device that has a slightly pointed tip with a hole in it. The one I have comes with 3 different sized black tips that you can screw on and off. Use the tip that has the same or smaller sized hole as your scrapbook eyelet.  Then you’ll place the setting mat under your paper and hole punch.  Line up the hole punch on your paper or page you wish to put the scrapbook eyelet into.  Make a hole by hitting the hole punch with the hammer.

Pick out your scrapbook eyelet, then put it in the hole and set it. This is easily done by using your scrapbook eyelet setting tool. This is the tool that has a round pointed tip, like a nail. There is another type of scrapbook eyelet setting tool that has a flatter tip with a circle groove and a flower pattern on the tip of it.  I prefer the nail tip version because it has more of a point to help split open the scrapbook eyelet.

Now, how do you use it?  Place your paper with the scrapbook eyelet in it upside down on the setting mat and hit the backside of the eyelet with the Setting Tool and Hammer.  Hit the scrapbook eyelet with the hammer until the back splits and the edges roll down. You’re finished! You have set your first scrapbook eyelet.
